Do Live Wallpapers use a lot of system resources?

(1/1)

GraphicDragon:
I saw a video of an Android tablet with a cool Live Wallpaper of asteroids floating in a star field. Something like that would be nice to have but I was wondering if a complex Live Wallpaper takes system resources from Apps. Will this even be an issue on the ThinkPad Tablet?

lpasq:
Resource use is relative to the live wallpaper graphics. Meaning....if more static and most of the activity is touch activated then less resource strain than a dynamically active wallpaper. Example: touch to create ripples in a lake versus a wallpaper of a windshield getting rained on with wipers swiping back and forth. In general, I think our CPU/GPU handles live wallpapers fine but battery drain needs to be considered as the trade off.

Thanks for the info lpasq. For me, I think Live Wallpapers will be more of a short term "Wow, that's cool" kind of thing rather than me keeping one full time anyway. I just wanted to make sure they didn't slow down tablet performance in general. It makes sense what you said about the complexity of the graphics being the major factor.
