Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper
« on: January 27, 2012, 12:53:12 PM »
So there is an app called Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper that is supposed to keep your root through OTA updates.  I have installed it and according to the program the Thinkpad Tablet passed all of the tests required for it to work.  Obviously I haven't tested it yet since no new OTA has been released but with OTA 2 presumably right around the corner I figured I would share this app so that others can be prepared when OTA 2 hits.

If the OTA 2 is going to ICS, then that already has a known exploit.

OTA 2 is not ICS, it is just bug fixes.

Yeah, Godfather is right that it's just bug fixes. ICS is the update after OTA 2.

Let us know how it turns out if you successfully updated to OTA 2.

I look forward to see if this app works on future OTAs. It would be pretty cool if it does.

Nice find btw.

By the way this app can cause problems with CWR nandroid system restores since it creates a protected file in /system that can't be overwritten.  If you want to restore an old backup of /system you will first need to delete su backup in Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.

Your CWR doesn't work at all or it just fails while restoring /system?  If it fails while restoring /system you need to open the program and choose delete su backup, uninstalling the program won't remove the backup as far as I know and hence won't fix the problem with system restores.

Speaking of RootKeeper and OTA2, being that OTA2 is being pushed out I would assume we would have to wait till someone is able to get a copy to manually push to our device for testing.

naturally, I have to first get this backup to work, so far it still is doing that rebooting issue.
