This lovely Hardware needs permanent root

I say we need to collect new bounty for root .
to be honest, and with the following OTAs, the previous root by djrbliss was total failure .

I don't think it was a total failure. At least not for me. Those who have root don't really need the OTA 2 update. The next update should come soon in May with ICS. That's when I think we need the permanent root as everyone should have ICS then.

There is already a ICS CM9 port as of now so we will see how things go. Maybe it'll be finished before Lenovo releases their version. The thing is that I don't really know the actual number of people who successfully rooted their tablet to take advantage of this because the polls don't show much and mainly people who couldn't didn't post making it seems like a lot of people failed with all the posts with people having problems. So if not many people were able to root, then this wouldn't be the solution and I suppose we should get that new bounty ready.

I disagree. I have root. It was easy, seamless, and is great. Tablet runs much smoother and faster. I donated even though I wasn't part of the bounty.
Don't get mad, get root

I would have to agree with Phish and pghFL, that the exploit is not a failure and yet I understand the frustration of users who have not achieved root or those who have lost root due to system resets. Moving forward, as I have stated, our best chance for another exploit will come with the release of ICS for our tablet and at the point that we have ICS, the spectrum broadens and more development comes into play. At the point, that we have ICS, there is a good possibility, that no bounty will be necessary.

I agree with manuelcalavera.  Add me to the list even if I already donate.

I can't even update OTA2 NOW just because I kill some system input APP.

Before that nobody tell me ,can't root again after unroot.

I am Stucking here right now ,How can I get ICS update. And i am not alone in such a situation。

For people who already get root , please Skip this post and say nothing.

This only for people who can't not root.

Fully agree !I'm in.

I got exactly the same problem with Feskey.Stuck now. Can not install OTA2 ,can not get root again.I don't think I can install ICS update when it's coming.
All we need it's a new root resource。

I feel sorry for you man . It's like a community rises for gaining liberty, and someone ( like pghFL ) start saying : "Nope, no need for liberty, I'm good and I'm satisfied with my life" . So selfish .

Count me in for $50 ,just found out this forum, and learn only a few people can successfully root. I really need the root for my tablet.

the root process is not a failure. It doesnt work for everybody (feel sorry for them) but it work for lots of people.

And many person succeed to keep root with OTA2 with rootkeeper. So its definitely not a failure !

Now, yes. For the person who don't succeed to get root, something must be done, but there's already a thread on this subject to track issues of those persons

http://www.thinkpadtabletforums.com/thinkpad-tablet-root-hacks-mods-and-development/official-'rooting-isn't-working'-thread/

And for those persons who mess up after root/unroot/upgrade. It's not the same problem ! try to flash backup of the system (if you have CWM installed) or wipe data and send it back to lenovo saying that the OTA didn't work !

Man, I've been in this process more than you can imagine it .
But let me tell you something, In engineering point of view when theres a small failure in an experiment, the whole experiment will be called "failure" . Specially in this matter, more than half of people are root-less ! just check the Chinese forum with google translate

if root don't work for more than 50% of people as you said, it would be a failure.

But in the forum here and on XDA, as I see, it's only a minority of people who cannot have root (and we must remove those who messed up with system files after rooting their tablet).

So in my point of view, it is not a failure.
It's only my opinion, feel free to have another opinion.

ps: talking about engineering; for me the process works 100%, for you 0%. So here, we cannot talk about failure of the "experiment" but about failure rate (or success rate) of the process.
And for now, there's nothing concrete about this rate.

Let me say, at this point, that I support the effort to achieve permanent root. Even though many have achieved root it is fragile to say the least and not easily preserved. My suggestion is that the forum should support the efforts of those who have not achieved root or those who have lost it, in finding a permanent root solution. Remember that even if you have achieved root, you have no guarantee that you can preserve or recreate it.

Can we  forget failure or not failure, and Just collect new bounty for people who can  make everybody  root ,what ever problem they got.

For people who can get ROOT from DAN now, they can Donation for dan and thanks dan.

Can we just simply do that?

While I am sorry that the root exploit did not work for you, calling it a failure is incorrect and ignores its successes.  Many people have successfully obtained root using Dan's exploit (permanently if they know what they are doing).  The original root exploit also gave some development life to the TPT: CWM recovery was quickly ported and already some developers are working on porting CM9 to the Thinkpad.  For those of us who successfully rooted we now have permanent root and even better an unlocked bootloader with a custom recovery installed.  It is unfortunate that some users caused problems for themselves by deleting important files and unrooting but there are always risks when one chooses to change system files and thus anyone choosing to do so should be extremely careful and create backups along the way (and never unroot!).  I do hope that a new exploit is found for OTA2 and that it works properly for everyone.  I will be happy to help in whatever way I can toward achieving such a goal, but root exploits are not easy to find and saying well lets just root OTA2 ignores how difficult that task is.  By all means though, start another bounty and see if you can get someone interested in taking another crack at it.  Good luck in your endeavors but please don't denigrate the hard work that has already been done.
