Yes OneNote is the killer for me.  Oh well, this tablet serves me well.  When the window 8 tablets hit, I'll take a look at them.

Not a surprise to me, yet still disappointing. Especially better implementation for OneNote would be nice.

ThinkPad Tablet Apps / Quill update issue.
« on: January 05, 2012, 02:29:48 PM »
Just got an update to quill.  Now it is putting dots on the page before the stylus makes contact.  Looks like there is pepper on the page.  I hope the fix this soon.  I don't suppose there are any settings that could correct this, are there?  It would be nice to have the option of rolling back an update.  I had no issues with the previous version.

ThinkPad Tablet General Discussion / Re: USB Headset Support?
« on: January 03, 2012, 12:36:48 AM »
I doubt there is native support for USB audio.  I plugged in a Logitech USB audio device, and audio still came out of the speakers.  Logitech does not list any drivers for any OS other than Windows XP/Vista/7.  Your only options for a headset at this point would be either analog, or Bluetooth.   It would take a developer to make it work, and I doubt there is enough demand for that, seeing as there are other options.

There is analog audio out through micro USB on some Motorola phones.  I use this with my RAZR in the Car Dock.  A special cable I ordered from Motorola charges the phone in the dock through micro USB, and has a split with a 3.5mm analog audio jack.  I don't know if this is specific to Motorola or not, but I suspect it is.

I got the Moko leather case.  It does not rotate, but it does have the ability to stand up at multiple angles in landscape mode thanks to the Velcro on the edge.

I don't know what I'll do long term. I like the idea of being able to remove the sleeve for taking notes.  The lid does annoy me a little when folded back.

ThinkPad Tablet General Discussion / Newspaper experience (eIBD)
« on: December 28, 2011, 11:56:05 AM »
Well I just fulfilled another of my reasons for wanting this tablet.  I really wanted to convert from the paper IBD (Investor's Business Daily) to eIBD on the tablet.  I wanted the ability to annotate right on the page in addition to the portability factor.  Using ezPDF Reader I can write on the page with the stylus which was something I couldn't do on my tablet PC, at least not with the software I had.  I started a 4 week free trial of eIBD, and the first day has sold me.  I'll be converting the rest of my paper subscription to eIBD after the trial.

I will miss the large size of the paper, but it was also bulky to open and read.  I didn't like reading it at work.  I will like reading the tablet at work.  eIBD has a web reader, but it does not work that well on a tablet.  The ads they insert in the web reader get in the way. The PDF is much better.  Also, multiple PDFs can be stored and retrieved even away from a network.  I don't have to deal with late or missing papers anymore either.  I used to get so mad when I was anticipating the Monday edition (IBD's version of a Sunday paper), and it never showed up.

I will also read more of the paper now.  Sometimes I would glance at the paper once and never pick it back up.  Since the tablet is always with me, I will be able to read it more thoroughly.

Also, I didn't get 3G because I use my 4G RAZR as a hotspot.

ThinkPad Tablet General Discussion / Re: OH WOW! The inking is great!

I'm using Quill already.  I'll look into the screen protector.  I'm not a big fan of them, but I'll give it a shot.  I'll also take a look at Writepad stylus to see how I like it as well.  Quill is fine.  I really miss OneNote on my tablet PC.  Maybe one day MobileNoter will be the app is should be.

ThinkPad Tablet General Discussion / Re: The Competition
« on: December 21, 2011, 09:57:48 PM »
As an update to the above, the Verizon Droid Xyboard from Motorola (released December '11) also has a stylus pen.  However, it is useless.  I have tested two of them, and both were so terrible I thought I was doing something wrong.  Unfortunately, I wasn't.  An online review mirrored my experience. The pen response is just too horrible to consider this a feature.  I love Motorola.  I have a Droid RAZR, which was an upgrade from a Droid X.  I really wanted the Xyboard.  I wanted it bad.  The pen is so bad, I wouldn't take a Xyboard for $100 with a free data plan.  I HAVE to have a good stylus.  I'm using a TPT, and so far it's great.

ThinkPad Tablet General Discussion / OH WOW! The inking is great!

OMG!  This tablet is AWESOME!  I know in some of my other posts I said I was wishing for a Wacom penabled tablet.  My only experience with N-Trig was the demo models at Best Buy and the AT&T store.  Maybe it was the software on the HTCs, maybe it was the fact that they were demo models, but the responsiveness and accuracy of the handwritting on the TPT is OUTSTANDING!  The ink lines also look much better.  I was expecting an acceptable experience, and was pleasantly surprised at how well this device works.

The inking is nice and thin.  The accuracy is very good.  Even the handwritting recognition was impressive.  I prefer freehand note taking, but may try out the recognition at a few meetings where I don't need to draw diagrams.

The only complaint I have so far is the pen tip is noisy.  That makes me totally happy to have a device that works so well, I'm complaining about a little clicking from the pen.  I can't believe I got this for less than $500.

Yes, eIBD is basically just an exact PDF copy of the paper.  It is usually available several hours after market close too.  You just log in to investors.com and download it.  As I said, there is a Kindle version of IBD, but it is has no charts, which I use.  If don't care about the charts and just want the articles, it is a great way to save on the subscription.

I'd have a tablet already if I didn't need the stylus.  Just ordered the TPT this weekend.  I was waiting for the Xyboard to come out.  The stylus response on that is a joke, and a very bad one.  I then looked at the Jetstream, and liked it.  However, I did not want to spend a premium and pay for monthly service. That left the TPT as I wanted a 10.1" with digitized pen.  What I really wanted was a tablet with a Wacom pen, but the only one I know of is not sold in the US.  I'm looking forward to the TPT, but if a Wacom penabled tablet comes to the US, I'll preorder it no matter the premium or data plan that may be required.

I almost bought another tablet PC (I gave my tablet PC to my wife) just for the Wacom pen, but I really wanted a lighter device with a longer battery life.  I've always like Thinkpads.  I have a T420 Thinkpad sitting on my desk right now (work computer).  I look forward to the first few meetings I go to with my new TPT.  Many others at work carry iPads to meetings.  They bring them in and do nothing with them.  I can't wait to whip out the pen and show them what a real tablet can do.  Before I gave my tablet PC to my wife I got some very interested looks and questions during meetings.  They usually lost interest when I told them I paid $1200 of my personal money for a tablet that I use at work.  I think they'll be much more interested when they find out I paid less than $500 for the TPT.  It really is a great value for a tablet with digitized input, even if it isn't Wacom.  Please don't flame me for that.  I'm not trying to bash N-Trig. N-Trig offers digitized pen input and multitouch together, which is awesome.  My tablet PC was pen only, but it was as close to perfect as I could imagine a pen input being.

16GB w/stylus from Amazon.  Fulfilled by Circuit City, which is basically Tiger Direct now.  By the time I fill 16GB, it will be time for a new tablet, and if it isn't, I'll add a card.

No, I just ordered the 10.1"  Thinkpad Tablet.  My primary desire for a tablet is note taking with a stylus.  Anything less then 10" is too small.  If I want small, I have a RAZR.  If I wanted a compact e-reader, I'd get a Fire.  I don't really see that happening though.  If I was going to spend money on a device just to read books, I would have already.  Anything else I want to do with a device will be served by the 10.1" tablet or the phone.   The main subscription I want to get is eIBD, which is basically a PDF of the full IBD paper.  It's cheaper, and I can ditch the paper subscription. The Kindle version does not have charts and is useless.  I'm sure some see a need for 7" but I don't.
